Paul Graham’s brand of documentary photography has always walked the line between documentation and art. His work speaks of larger social themes, a focus that helped redefine British documentary photography. In this volume of images from the United States, Graham pulls no punches, focusing squarely on the ever-present and widening divide between the privileged and the disenfranchised. Always ahead of the curve on social issues, Graham published this book two years before Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf states, highlighting this social schism he expressed so resonantly in American Night. The form Graham chose for representing this is unique as well, with many images of the poor and indigent washed-out and obscured.

A dense series of dark street portraits also disrupts this narrative of light, adding a claustrophobic intensity to the searing reality of the dispossessed in contemporary America."
The DELUXE LIMITED EDITION of American Night is offered in AS NEW condition, and was obtained directly from the Publisher upon release. There are a couple of minor imperfections to the clamshell box, as arrived. The Edition comes with a specially made black linen-bound SIGNED & NUMBERED hardcover copy of American Night, which is blind-stamped with the title and Artist's name on the cover. The book measures 11 ½ x 15 ¼ inches. Laid-in the front cover of the book is the ORIGINAL PIGMENT INK print, which is on paper which measures 11 ¼ x 14 ¼ inches, with the image size being 9 x 12 inches. The print is UNIQUE to the Book, as a total of 20 prints were selected to be part of this Deluxe Limited Edition, and only one copy of each print was made. The print is housed in an archival Mylar sleeve to protect the image. The print is SIGNED on verso, along with the inscription "For Special Edition Book." Both the BOOK and the PRINT are laid inside a specially constructed black linen-bound heavy boarded CLAMSHELL box. The cover is blind-stamped with the title of the work, and the Artist's name.
