Offered here in AS NEW condition is Flesh and Spirit, the sixth volume in 21^st Edition's Journal of Contemporary Photography series. This is a DELUXE LIMITED EDITION of just 125. It is SIGNED on the limitation page by the featured Artists: Jayne Hinds Bidaut, Flor Garduno, Brigitte Carnochan, Robert Stivers, Don Hong Oai, Toni Catany, Wouter Deruytter, S.J. Staniski, Carol Munder, Ariane Lopez-Huici, Dimitris Yeros, Greg Gorman, Jerry Spagnoli, Toni Catany, Christpher Bucklow, and Philip Trager.

The Journal of Contemporary Photography, Volume VI is entitled “Flesh and Spirit.” It encompasses a diverse cross-section of international photographers, whose artistic visions mingle and compliment each other in a profound meditation on the intersection of perception, subjectivity, and knowledge. “Flesh and Spirit” is broad yet poetically focused, with fascinating texts by a variety of respected writers and historians. As editor John Wood summarizes: “The book is a celebration of the things of the earth, the things of the heaven, and their elegant intersection in the mind's eye.”

Flesh and Spirit includes newly commissioned work by writers Edward Albee, Ann Beattie, Robert Olen Butler, Annie Dillard, Fang Jing Pei, Ann Patchett, Edmund White, Lance Speer and many others. “

This is a simply gorgeous book with hardcover boards bound in fine Japanese silk and a spine bound with quarter Moroccan goatskin. There is no dust jacket, as issued. It is encased in a handmade basswood box, also covered in silk, measuring 17 x 14.75 inches. There are 248 pages with 10 hand-pulled photogravures, 6 full-color planographs (“hand-printed, high resolution photolithography”) on tissue, and 44 additional dry-trap tritone and color plates. The photogravures were produced by Jon Goodman Photogravure in Florence, Massachusetts. The book, which includes notes on the contributors, was designed by Carolyn Eckert and bound by Mark Tomlinson. It measures 15.25 x 13.75 inches.
