Hokkaido was first published to coincide with a major exhibition of Michael Kenna's work opening in Spring 2006 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.

In this monograph, Hokkaido, Kenna has refined his clarity of vision to a whole new level.”

This dramatic edition of Hokkaido is presented in a black cloth clamshell box featuring a 4.5 x 4-inch image from Hokkaido mounted on the cover. Laid inside the box is a folder enclosing a signed and numbered print by the artist. Inky trees lattice in towards the image’s center, supporting the ghostly image of a shrine’s gate in this stunning sepia-toned, silver gelatin print. Titled “Torii in Trees, Wakoto, Hokkaido, Japan, 2005,” the print measures 5 x 4.5 inches. It is held in place on a backing of 10 x 8-inch fine, white heavy matte stock paper with four transparent holders. The artist has signed the print and numbered the back of the matte in pencil.

The book is designed by renowned Japanese designer Hideyuki Taguchi, and opens with an introduction by Daido Moriyama.

This DELUXE LIMITED EDITION of HOKKAIDO is offered in NEW/MINT CONDITION. The slipcased edition is bound in thin wooden boards of maple and signed by the author. Beautifully printed on heavy, uncoated Japanese paper using special black inks. The book measures 12 x 13 inches and has 104 pages with 84 duotone plates.
